Clemens is Back

Over the past few years Roger Clemens’ name has been prominent in sports news. But not for positive reasons. Perjury and trial are just a couple of the words that come to mind when Clemens comes up in conversation.

Now he’s back in the headlines for new reasons, what some may consider as positive ones. At 50-years-old, Clemens is making a return to baseball. Not with a team associated with Major League Baseball, but with an independent team, the Sugar Land Skeeters.

Some people, like myself, were most likely skeptical of his return. Does he have an ulterior motive? Is he trying to make it back to the MLB? Isn’t he too old for this? Is his arm going to be able to hold up?

Well some of those questions may have been answered in his debut. His performance went surprisingly well. He gave up only one hit, struck out two and threw 37 pitches with a 24:13 strike to ball ratio in 3.1 innings.

Impressive? Yes. Can it happen again? We’ll just have to wait and see.
