The MVP Should Stay in Detroit

After today’s performance, it is clear that the MVP award should stay in the city of Detroit.

Miguel Cabrera has proved himself over and over as one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball. The man steps up to the plate and I’d cower in fear if I was pitching against him.

Two home runs against the Oakland Athletics. It’s his 5th multiple home run game of the season, the 20th of his career. With those two home runs he reached 40 in a season – the first ever in his career. He also hit the Tigers first grand-slam of the season (it’s September!).

From pitcher to position player, I believe that Cabrera deserves the MVP award and that it should stay in Detroit. Everyone knows he’s a great ballplayer, but he doesn’t have a lot of the accolades to accompany the caliber of player that he is. He may not seem underrated, but if he doesn’t win this award, I would consider him underrated without a doubt.

If he doesn’t win he will be one of only a select few players who have been in the MVP running and of very high contention, but has not won the award, over a course of six years.

It was a record night for Miguel and he deserves that MVP award. Give Mike Trout the Rookie of the Year – he’s got a long career ahead of him.
