Live Tweeting the ALCS

I was blessed with the opportunity to head to my home in Milford from my home in Indianapolis for the early in the week games of the American League Championship Series. I had a companion and things got interesting when she wore her Red Sox apparel and I was decked out in blue and orange.

The reason we even bothered going was because I’ve applied for an internship with MLB.com. And if I went and “covered” the games I might be more marketable when the next section of interviews rolls around.

We went to the games armed with (almost completely charged) iPhones and three 4GB SD cards for my point and shoot digital camera to use if we wanted to film anything.

The adventure started with Game 3.

I’ve live tweeted events before. But this was the first time, I’ve been in the stands of a professional sporting event and attached to my cell phone.

There were some struggles along the way and I picked up a few tricks, but by the end of the second night my phone was autocorrecting the entire Boston Red Sox roster including Jared Saltalamacchia.

During Game 4, sitting in the Upper Deck on a fairly chilly night, I wished I had smart phone gloves. I tried wearing some non-touch screen compatible ones and that didn’t work out too well. By the third inning they weren’t helping me, in fact, I think they were more harmful because I couldn’t type fast enough.

Live tweeting the games though made me realize that I could be good at the job I’m trying to get. I already know I’m a good writer. I know I’m good at social media. Now, I know that I can be successful when it comes time for me to combine the two.
