Brandon Inge, the former Detroit Tiger, has been nothing short of inspirational in his time as an Oakland Athletic.
Fans in Detroit, talked more trash and gave Inge the hardest time because of his lack of performance not only at the plate, but in the field as well. They weren’t happy with his inability to transition out of third base and to a utility player role. It was unfortunate.
There were games at Comerica Park, early on in the season, before he was traded, that I attended and when Inge made a play or came up to bat he was booed. You don’t go around booing your own players. I love the Tigers and sure there are some players that I wish would perform better, but I have never booed them. No wonder Tigers fans get a bad reputation.
But Inge fans watched him transition into an everyday third base role in Oakland, filling in for the injured Scott Sizemore (who also was a Tiger). He came out of Detroit and was swinging the bat with power and hitting a grand slam and more home runs than he had while in Detroit.
Now, even though this injury may land him on the DL, he proved something about his character and dedication to the game. He dislocates his shoulder on a diving stop and sets it himself only to continue the game. Then later on, he hits the go-ahead run. What about that can you not call inspirational? I could say you could go as far as to call it incredible.
Fans in Detroit miss this player and wish that he had remained here and performed the way he is in Oakland.
Keep it up Brandon (some of us Tigers fans are still cheering for you).
